Self Care Shouldn’t be Expensive

self care

Self care is an essential part of successful living. Taking care of yourself ensures you can function at your highest capacity. However, your self-care practices can be pricey if you’re not mindful. Here are some popular ways to treat yourself without breaking the bank.

Massage

One of my favorite ways to relax is a deep-tissue massage. I used to pay $65 per month, plus tip, for a massage at one of the known spa chains. However, I canceled my subscription because the costs kept creeping up. If I wanted to add a facial, stretch, or additional massage, my charges were steadily increasing. A lower-cost alternative is to stick to a single massage session with no extra services. Another option is to use your gym’s massage tables. Your gym membership is usually a fraction of the cost of a massage subscription for unlimited use. If you know a masseuse personally, you may be able to negotiate rates for regular massages. Alternatively, you can purchase a massage or foam roller you can use at home.

Mani-Pedi

Men and women both enjoy the pampering of manicures and pedicures. It’s a nice feeling to have someone exfoliate and moisturize your hands and feet. Prices, and how often you go to the spa for the services, will vary widely depending on the details. You can get hot towels, sugar scrubs, masks, etc. that will increase the value. If you go weekly or biweekly, your costs will continue to grow each month. Instead of paying for those services, you can do them all at home. You can invest in a foot spa and all the necessary tools for a complete spa experience. Not only will you save money over time, but you will also limit your exposure to bacteria. To make your spa night more lively, invite friends over, and relax together.

Fitness

Working out can be a great way to improve your mental and physical health. You can walk or run outside, swim, or do yoga in the park. If you prefer to release endorphins by taking fitness classes, you have several affordable options. Drop-in classes at swanky studios start at $15 to 25 each. If you participate in nine classes a month, you can expect to pay at least $135 per month. To manage your fitness expenses, take advantage of free classes, or watch free videos online. There are hundreds of fitness videos on YouTube. If you have a gym membership, make sure it includes unlimited group classes.

Free Options

Explore all of your options. There could be low-cost or free opportunities for self care in your backyard. For example, you can take a walk in the park or your neighborhood. Spend time with your spouse and children. Make time to hang out with extended family and friends you haven’t seen. Host a potluck dinner or volunteer with a local charity. Be as creative as you want while you take care of yourself.
